Reina has rashes since 2 weeks old and I realised that her rashes were not ‘normal’ and pretty persistant even applying steriod (which will thinner her skin) prescirbled by PD.
The signs and symptons that Reina could possibly diagnosed with Eczema
1. Itch – She tends to scratch her whole face especially her chin.
2. Inflammation – Damage to skin cells caused by scratching.
3. Cradle cap
4. Dry skin
All the while, have been trying to find out what's the triggering point. PD always say(which i find it very lame, &/or trying to brush me off), is her saliva, must keep her mouth clean. Mom will say must be what i eat which caused my breastmilk to be "contaminated". All in All, they are so many possible reasons that trigger her eczema and it's kind of impossible to watch i eat! It wld be the biggest joke if my breastmilk caused her eczema flare! so what? gave up breastfeeding??
Months after months, I've been waiting for it to outgrow. In good days, You will get to see her pretty clean face, but this sight will not last ..
Did some research and the best medication for Eczema babies is to
Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize!
Moisturize, Moisturize and Moisturize!
Must keep the skin moist as dry skins will cause itch, which will cause inflammation.
Therefore, i'd spent a fortune on different kind of moisturizer, shower form, lotion etc...
After 7 mths, she started having semi-solids. As all moms know, to introduce new food, u must follow the 4 days rule. With her reddness on her face area, always. I just cldnt determine if she's really allergy to the food or it's just her eczema. Frustrated by always have to guess.. I have decided to let her do a skin prick test before i drove myself paranoids in guessing all sorts of allergies.
It turned out that the skin prick test is less than 5 minutes, starting with the medical staff cleaning Reina's back (normally is on the arms, but she's still an infant) and applying the possible allergens (egg, dust mite, wheat, cod, milk etc) onto her back. The Medical staff was quick and precise in her pricking, that Reina didnt really let out a very loud cry. We had to wait 20 minutes or so before the medical staff examined the size of the wheal, i.e. reddish swelling to determine if Reina is allergic to any of the substance.
/*she was so quick that i only managed to start videoing during the last few pricks*/
My Lit' R was brave =)
All the results tested negative – no worries over food allergy (apparently, testing for milk and egg is sufficient for food allergy; no need to prick 100 holes to test for all possible food to be consumed in a lifetime).
Which means, We are back to square 1. Just have to wait patiently to let it outgrow naturally.
In the meantime, the doc prescribed physiogel A1 cream (which can only buy from the doc), more steriod cream and physiogel shower cream.
In totality,I'd spend $380. Oh well, it's worth it. At least we have a piece of mind. And she gets to eat all the delicious food on earth without any fear.
Till then, I hope my next post on her Eczema is she has grown out of it !
